Chief's Report

Fire and Medical Call Response

During the 2009 fiscal year, the Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department responded to a total of 376 fire and medical related calls.  Of the 376, a total of 330 emergency calls occurred in the fire district, while 46 calls were located in surrounding districts.  There were a total of 36 residential/commercial structure fires, 19 vehicle fires, 56 motor vehicle accidents, and 160 medical response calls.  The Macedonia Fire Department provides mutual aid to the following departments: Cherokee Creek, Grassy Pond, City of Gaffney, Goucher/White Plains, Cowpens, and Chesnee Community.


During the 2009 fiscal year, the members of the Macedonia Fire Department completed a total of 771 hours of fire and medical training.  Two firefighters completed the Introduction to Basic Firefighting course and received their certification as a level 1 interior firefighter.  Eleven firefighters complete the Arson Detection for First Responders course, three complete the Hazardous Material Operations course, and five attended Southeastern Fire School at the South Carolina Fire Academy.  All firefighters participate in regular monthly training provided by the officers of the department.  Each certified firefighter has completed over 200 hours of training to become a level 3 firefighter and continues to train an average of 30 hours each year.
